**flat in map cases, except for the folded maps (e.g., USGS folded-map
series); the latter are filed on standard shelving. filing order is same
as in main map collection

**trying to squeeze as much into the storage area as possible;
with map cases in a non-public area, we can go 5 high.

**no barcodes on any of the map. the Library's circulation crew
goes by call number; we started out requesting entire folders,
not just specific sheets, but the circ persons volunteered to
pull just the sheets we need. we have a plastic storage carrier -
the kind that is sold for carrying art supplies - that is used
for topos.

**if it's something difficult to find, one of the
map-library crew goes out and pulls. but that's
rare - perhaps once every 6 months.

**we photocopied each graphic index (each has sheets
but not individual editions checked in); the original
is kept in the main map library and the photocopy
with the set in the storage area.
