Earth Interactions Special Collection: Land-atmosphere Interactions, with a focus on water
Submission Deadline: 31 December 2020
Dear Colleagues,
Land-atmosphere interactions go hand in hand with water and climate. As humans continue to alter land cover and land use over space and time, these changes influence the climate system through a variety of processes. Changes to the land surface affect a host of cycles including greenhouse gases, vegetation dynamics, and ecosystem services. These changes occur across latitudinal gradients and human-natural ecotones. Feedbacks and coupling strengths at local and regional scales modify, and are modified by, vegetation and urbanization dynamics. Moreover, hydroclimate processes are increasingly influenced by systemic social and ecological changes.
For this special collection, we seek contributions focused on one or more of the following topics:
-The effects of land use change (agriculture, deforestation, urban growth etc) on the water cycle, carbon cycle, and other cycles;
-The impacts of land cover and land use change on climate change;
-Interactions, coupling, and feedbacks between the land surface and the atmosphere;
-Changes in surface energy and mass fluxes related to changes in the land surface;
-Irrigation, water cycling and recycling, and related processes;
-Changing relationships between evapotranspiration, precipitation, and the hydroclimatic system;
-Changes in water as an ecosystem service.
