POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT ENVIROTRON MANAGER
(AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH ENGINEER II)
The Georgia Envirotron is a multidisciplinary, multiuser
facility for controlled environment research in the College of
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Griffin Campus. The
Envirotron now has nine indoor controlled environment growth
chambers, eight greenhouses, and two movable sunlit controlled
environment chambers. The Envirotron manager must be highly
independent and able to work with minimal supervision. The
Envirotron Committee Chair will serve as the direct supervisor of
the Envirotron manager and will review and approve work in
consultation with the Envirotron Committee.
The Envirotron Manager is responsible for day-to-day
management of the facility to assure that facilities are in good
operating order for users, and to coordinate use among various
users to assure that research objectives and contractual
obligations are met in a timely manner. The Manager will work with
faculty and students to plan, organize, and conduct research on
biological systems grown in controlled environments, draft quality
assurance reports and operating reports, assist in developing
project proposals and project status reports, and assist in
developing and maintaining quality assurance plans. Additional
duties of the Manager include computer programming for a network of
growth chamber and greenhouse controllers, assisting with operation
of movable sunlit chambers in field research, telecommunications
network maintenance, calibrating sensors, data base maintenance for
quality assurance and other needs, minor repairs and preventive
maintenance, updating data logs for quality assurance, coordinating
maintenance and repairs of Envirotron facilities, and drafting
various reports. The Envirotron Manager must also be on call to
answer computer-generated alarms.
The position requires a B.S. degree in Engineering or related
field and 5 years relevant experience, or M.S. degree in
Engineering or related field. Excellent interpersonal and systems
management skills are essential. Experience in electronics, use and
calibration of scientific instruments, and programming for data
acquisition and environmental control is required, and familiarity
with HVAC is beneficial.
The classification title is Agricultural Research Engineer II,
with a base salary of $31,922 and excellent benefits.
