state's economy, in addition to forest values associated with recreation,
non-timber products and ecological services forests provide to Florida
citizens. The School of Forest Resources and Conservation(www.sfrc.ufl.edu),
a unit of the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences(www.ifas.ufl.edu)
at the University of Florida has diverse teaching, research, and extension
education programs with 20 faculty in Gainesville and 4 others located at
Research and Education Centers throughout the state. The faculty is enriched
by 32 affiliate and courtesy faculty. A unique and rich environment is
provided by the School for building research collaborations through its
three university/industry research cooperatives and other joint programs
with national organizations and funding agencies. Collaboration among
scientists and cooperators occurs from the molecular and physiological
levels to the tree and stand levels. These programs provide small plot and
large field research installations and extensive data bases to facilitate
integrative research. The School offers two undergraduate majors: the SAF
accredited Forest Resources and Conservation and the Natural Resources and
Conservation majors. At the graduate level, a professional masters (MFRC),
a science masters (MS) and the PhD degree may be earned in the School.
