Dear Benjamin,

A few years ago, I did a detailed comparison of various pedotransfer functions, which was first presented as a poster on the modeling conference in Florence, Italy, in July 2001 and then published as Gijsman A.J., Jagtap S.S., Jones J.W. 2002. Wading through a swamp of complete confusion: how to choose a method for estimating soil water retention parameters for crop models. European Journal of Agronomy, 18: 75-105.

It is quite a surprising title, but it really reflects how the situation was, as it was a mess. Many published papers had plain errors or were published various times, but with different equations. The equation DSSAT used until v3.5 also proved inaccurate; which one is used now by v4.0, the programmer of Ag&Bio Eng. at Univ. Florida (Oxana) can tell you.

If you would like to receive it as PDF, please let me know, but note that it is almost 1 MB, which e.g. Hotmail may not accept, so please make sure your mail box has no such limit.

Dear DSSAT Users,

iŽd like to know where to look up the internal pedo-transfer-function
DSSAT calculates DUL and LL according to after having entered grain
size fractions and organic Carbon content.

thanks for all advice.

best regards

Benjamin
