greenhouse.
Please be aware and alert to heat wave safety - review the below
information with your students.
Heat Wave Safety
General precautions:
• Wear loose, light colored clothing, and a hat
• Avoid direct sunlight if possible
• Rest frequently
• Drink plenty of water or water with electrolytes
Heatstroke symptoms:
• Red, dry, hot face and skin
• Dilated pupils
• High body temperature
• Rapid pulse
• Fast, loud breathing
• Mental confusion
• Loss of consciousness
• Convulsions, seizures
Heat exhaustion symptoms:
• Pale, moist, cool-clammy skin
• Normal pupils in eyes
• Body temperature below 100 degrees
• Fast weak pulse
• Shallow quiet breathing/ mood swings, irritability, confusion
• Nausea, vomiting, weakness
• Headache, vertigo, fainting
First aid:
• Move the person to a shady, cool area
• Loosen any heavy, tight fitting clothing
• Offer water
• Fan and mist the individual
• In the case of heat stroke, call 911 immediately
