Hi Karl,
Concerning your question on modelling grassland production: The CENTURY
model was originally developed for simulating grass production and soil
organic matter dynamics in the the natural grasslands of the
North-American Great Plains. This model has been quite widely and
internationally used. See the various articles by W.J. Parton et al.:
Soil Sci. Soc. Am. J. 51:1173-1179 (1987); or Soil Sci. Soc. of America,
Special Publication 39, pp. 147-167 (1994); or Global Biochem. Cycles 7:
785-809 (1993); or Biogeochemistry 5: 109-131 (1988). Contact Dr. W.J.
Parton, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Co.
Besides, the most recent version of DSSAT also has a new grassland
option. I also expect (but don't know any names) that someone in
Australia has done some work on grassland modelling.
Succes!
