Dear Shorebirders,
   For the next month my personal shorebirding area is the spillway below White Rock Lake in Dallas, TX. I will be conducting an unofficial (for fun) survey of the migrant shorebirds there, and I will post final data when it is finished on August 23. Then I will be heading to Austin College in Sherman, TX to get a B.A. in Biology, play on the basketball team, and bird Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge (14 shorebird species were observed yesterday by a couple of birders up there). The upper spillway at White Rock is basically a wide, uneven concrete pad a hundred yards wide and long with mounds of mud and a few bunches of grass, along with one and a half to a quarter of an inch of moving water on top. It is a great place to observe peeps, although larger shorebirds are fairly inconsistent. Present today were 115 Least Sandpipers, 4 Western Sandpipers, 2 Semipalmated Sanpipers, and 4 Spotted Sandpipers. There were several juvenile Leasts on the spillway. All other birds were adults.
