The 2nd International Workshop on the Canegro Sugarcane Model - October
2002

First Announcement

The 2nd International Workshop on the Canegro Sugarcane Model will be
held from 9 to 10 (if desired on 11 October as well) 2002 at the
Mauritius Sugarcane Research Institute (MSIRI), Reduit, Mauritius. This
is to follow up the very successful first Workshop held in South Africa
(proceedings available at
www.sugar.org.za/sasex/about/agronomy/workshop/workshop.htm). A lot
of progress has been made since then and many people have expressed
interest in another meeting of Canegro users.

The purpose of the 2nd workshop is to enable (1) further exchange of
information on the development, testing and application of the Canegro
model and (2) the establishment and strengthening of collaborative
Canegro projects. The workshop will have a similar format to the 1st one
and will consist of presentation of scientific papers, discussion and
possibly a hands-on session (depending on delegates' preference).
Abstracts (300 words in MSWord format) should be submitted to

General
"Mauritius is an island republic located 800 km off the East coast of
Madagascar with a pluricultural population and enjoying a maritime
climate. October is usually sunny with mild temperatures varying from 22
to 28 degrees Celsius during the day and 15 to 19 degrees Celsius at
night depending on the location across the island. Relative humidity is
usually high, about 80% in the morning and falling during the day. Light
clothes are OK but it is recommended to have a light jacket when going
