Dear Mr Singels
We had the Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc (GuySuCo) are very interested in the
application and use of the Canegro Sugarcane Model. In 1997 I had attended
an IFDC sponsored workshop on simulating crop growth using DSSAT. Then in
1999 another colleague from the same organisation attended a similar
workshop. Unfortunately however, we have not been able to yet validate the
model. We are hoping to be able to use the Model at the basic level maybe to
predict cane yields and for harvest planning. We are not quite clear how we
can obtain different genetic coefficients for our varieties or whether we
can use varieties contained in the Model to simulate yields. In short, we
need to understand a little more how we can best utilize the model to get
some practical outputs.
We do not have a presentation for the workshop but are very much interested
in the workshop or maybe another level of workshop where such knowledge can
be obtained.

Regards
Anton Dey

The 2nd International Workshop on the Canegro Sugarcane Model - October
2002

Second Circular

The 2nd International Workshop on the Canegro Sugarcane Model will be
held from 9 to 11October 2002 at the Mauritius Sugarcane Research
Institute (MSIRI), Reduit, Mauritius. See
www.sugar.org.za/sasex/about/agronomy/workshop/workshop02.htm for
details.

The response to the first announcement has been limited and we would
like to offer another opportunity for scientists to register and to
submit abstracts of workshop presentations. We have widened the scope
of the workshop to include non-DSSAT sugarcane modelling. Please send
your response to [log in to unmask] before 31 March 2002. The
decision to go ahead with the workshop in its current format will be
taken in April.

Below is a list of tentative titles received for the Workshop:

Maurits vd Berg - Towards a physiologic yet practical modelling
approach for assimilate partitioning
Fareeda Nayamuth & Abraham Singels - Validation of a new Canegro dry
matter partioning model in Mauritius and SA.
Fareeda Nayamuth - Validation of the DSSAT Canegro model in Mauritius
Mark McGlinchey - Canegro application (yield estimates and harvest
planning)
Greg Kiker and Abraham Singels - Incorporating a new dry matter
partioning model into DSSAT Canegro: Description and validation

Hope to hear from you soon.

Abraham Singels
