In November 2008, the Library of Congress’ Acquisitions and
Bibliographic Access Directorate (ABA) managers approved the Policy and
Standards Division’s (PSD’s) timeline and plan for five new
genre/form projects: cartography, law, literature, music, and religion.
In accordance with that timeline, PSD and the LC Geography and Maps
Division are now in the initial stages of creating genre/form authority
records (MARC tag 155) for cartographic materials.
A list of sample cartography genre/form headings and the timeline
report, as well as general information about the projects, may be viewed
on LC’s genre/form web site,
<http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/genreformgeneral.html>.
