Subject: [DIGLIB] Study on search & retrieval in online map portals
Dear all,
we are currently conducting a study on search and retrieval in online
map portals as part of the EuropeanaConnect (http://europeanaconnect.eu)
research project. One major goal of the study is to establish a "gold
standard" which allows us to evaluate different retrieval approaches via
precision & recall analyses.
We have created a Web application through which we collect mappings
("relevant" or "not relevant") between search queries and digitised maps
(both courtesy of the Library of Congress). In order to obtain a
reasonable amount of data, we need the help of volunteers. Particularly
valuable, of course, would be input from expert volunteers from the
(digital) library domain.
The task is simple, quick, can be performed over the Web with no fixed
time constraints - and is hopefully fun, too! (And - just a personal
note - it's also a nice way to discover some hidden gems in the LoC
collection!) If you are interested in joining our effort, please visit
our application at
http://compass.cs.univie.ac.at/
Thanks & Best regards,
Rainer Simon
