Are you aware of http://edcsns17.cr.usgs.gov/EarthExplorer/ I did quick
search for pre 1960 aerials along the hwy 78 corridor in that area and
had over 100 results.
http://wrigis.csusb.edu/AerialphotosProject/Default.aspx might also be
worth checking.

Hi Kathy:
I went through the USGS APMI (Aerial Photography Micrographic Index)
microfiche with no luck. I also fired up the old USGS APSRS CD and it
listed a couple of possibilities, but don't get your hopes up since they
also list ABN-1953 as covering this area:
Two Fairchild flights held at the Fairchild Collection at Whittier
College are listed:
C-4650, 1937, 1:20,000
C-20500, 1954, 1:40,000
You might contact them to see if these flights in reality cover the
area, but APSRS had serious problems in their data entry
The other possible is a US Army flight listed as Project 001, 1956,
1:64,000. This would be held at USGS EROS Data Center in Sioux Falls,
SD, but it should have showed up on the APMI fiche and it didn't. It
would be worth your while to search EROS as well as the National
Archives since EROS will hold all the Military flights & that would seem
to be your best bet. Good luck.

All,
My apologies to those who receive this twice...
I have a faculty member who is looking for pre-1960s aerial
photographs of part of the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area
in Imperial County, CA. The specific area of interest is the
mile on either side of highway 78 between the Coachella Canal
and the Niland-Glamis Road and railroad tracks (Glamis is at the
east end of the study area.) I have check the USDA 1959 and 1953
(ABN-1959 & ABN-1953) flights of Imperial County and they did
not cover this area. This area was a military training area
during WWII and the researcher has heard that the military flew
aerial photography, so we think photography does exist. We are
checking with National Archives. Does anyone have any other leads?
The approximate areas are:
T13s R17E sections 25, 26, 35, 36
T13s R17 1/2E, sections 25, 26, 35, 36
T13s R18E sections 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33
T14s R17E sections 1, 2
T14S R18E sections 4, 5, 6
San Bernardino, CA meridian
