JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
PROJECT SCIENTIST- SYSTEMS MODELING
 
DUTIES
This position involves developing methodologies for adoption and diffusion
of decision support tools for integrated nutrient management research and
transfer to NARES, NGOs, and universities in West Africa.  This position may
involve:	
	
 
*       Developing methodologies for effective introduction of systems
approach in rural development research 
 
*       Executing, guiding, and coordinating project activities
 
*       Designing and performing surveys related to past efforts in
introducing systems approach to the region
 
*       Promoting and stimulating the use of systems tools in the ongoing
soil fertility improvement research
 
*       Conducting training on application of systems tools for decision
making in the area of soil fertility improvement and sustainable crop
production
 
*       Performing a variety of other minor duties as required
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS
This position requires detailed knowledge of computer simulation combined
with knowledge in agricultural sciences and educational technology.  This
job may involve the following:
 
*       Knowledge and relevant experience on systems and participatory
approaches for research and extension application
 
*       Knowledge of agricultural production systems (biophysical and/or
socioeconomic) to identify the most important factors which affect
agricultural productivity , to conduct/design field research, and to develop
management packages
 
*       Knowledge and experience on educational communication and diffusion
research 
 
*       Ability to communicate effectively (English and French) in order to
interact and exchange ideas and information with people of different ethnic,
cultural and educational background, and to prepare reports and manuscripts
 
*       Minimum of a Doctorate in Agricultural Sciences (biophysical or
socioeconomic discipline) or Educational Communication
 
BENEFITS
The salary will be paid in U.S. dollars and commensurate with qualification
and experience.  As an annual employee the benefits package will include
annual and sick leave; insurance (medical, life, AD&D, LTD, travel life);
and retirement.
 
POST
This position will be posted at Systems Approach Unit, IFDC-Africa, Lomé,
Togo, and will require significant amount of travel in the West African
region.  The appointment will be for the project duration of three years.
