5/3 Bandon Marsh NWR Coos Cty OR

We checked the marsh last evening and it was again spectacular - more
record breaking for the marsh!

WESTERN SANDPIPER - 75,000 (!!!)
LEAST SANDPIPER - 750
DUNLIN - 5000
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER - 1800 (!!!)
RED KNOT - 22
DOWITCHER - 24 (heard Short-bills only)
WHIMBREL - 6
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER - 5
LONG-BILLED CURLEW - 3

A MERLIN and PEREGRINE were working the flocks hard.

At Coos Bay North Spit about mid-day we had 6 MARBLED GODWITS on the
beach and when we drove out along the bay side there were thousands of
shorebirds on the mudflats. We didn't count, but there were at least
7500 peeps.

Cheers
