Status  Full-Time
Job Summary     **This is a 2 year limited term position. Continuation of
employment will be based on availability of funding.** The individual in
this position will provide professional assistance to the supervisor for
ongoing programs and projects in precision agriculture and grain crops.
The research projects will require small plot and on-farm experience.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assist with field
research planning, preparation and implementation; assist in
coordinating and conducting workshops to transfer agronomic and
precision agriculture knowledge to stakeholders in Alabama; assist with
coordinating field GPS, GIS, and Remote Sensing data collection and
reporting; assist in budget management for research projects; provide
general supervision of students employees; assist in preparation of
various extension materials; design and fabricate tools to support
precision agriculture and grain crops research and extension activities;
maintain contacts with other departments on campus as well as Extension
agents; and represent the Agronomy and Soils Department and the
precision agriculture team in activities both on and off campus.
Minimum Qualifications  Designation as a Research Assistant requires a
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Agronomy, Soil
Science, Agricultural Engineering, Crop Science, Horticulture, or
closely related discipline and 2 years experience in geospatial
technologies (GPS, GIS, Remote Sensing) and field mapping and/or
Precision Agriculture. Designation as a Research Associate requires a
Master's degree from an accredited institution in the above stated
disciplines. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of
experience. The selected candidate should be familiar with: agronomic
crops, farm machinery, sensor technology, electronics and computer
programming, computing, and web-based decision support tools. Must have
experience with field trials data collection. In addition, should have a
GIS and GPS background which includes familiarity with ESRI and Trimble
products. Excellent interpersonal communication and public speaking
skills are required. Individual must be able to work individually and
cooperatively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Must meet
eligibility requirements to work in the United States by the date of
employment and continue to work legally for the proposed term of

experience and experience with Crop Growth Modeling.
