The Center for Spatial Studies at the University of California, Santa
Barbara is pleased to announce the re-launch of TeachSpatial
(www.teachspatial.org <http://www.teachspatial.org>), a web portal
providing access to:
* Digital resources for teaching spatial concepts and principles,
especially at the undergraduate level
* Tools to help educators and researchers explore spatial perspectives
within disciplines, as well as facilitate the development of
cross-disciplinary spatial learning objectives
If you have visited the site before you will find it has been completely
redesigned, with new functionality and content. If not, please have a
look and in either case, let us know what you think. As you will see,
there are many ways you can easily contribute to its ongoing development.
SOME OF THE NEW FEATURES
1) "Resource Browser." We are now a spatial portal to NSDL, the U.S.
National Science Digital Library. Select a spatial concept term drawn
from science education standards (NSES 1996, Geography 1994) and get a
listing of relevant teaching resources from multiple disciplines in the
sciences (Physical, Life, Earth and Space, Social).
2) "Concept Perspectives" is a collection of definitions and expository
statements about spatial concepts and principles from multiple
disciplinary perspectives. Registered users can easily add their own to
the collection.
3) The "Standards Browser" lists the spatial concepts found in U.S.
science teaching standards for grades K-12 and U.S. geography standards
for grades 9-12 alongside the text of the standards themselves.
4) Listings of publications and web links relevant to spatial teaching
and learning, and a simple form for suggesting additions.
Again, your feedback is most welcome!

Karl Grossner and Donald Janelle
