The Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) in
Müncheberg, Germany, has opened a position for a

*Post-doc crop modeller*

*[16/2014]*

**The international research project „CarBioCial: Carbon sequestration,
biodiversity and social structures in Southern Amazonia: models and
implementation of carbon-optimized land management strategies“ aims for
analysing land use change in the conversion zone of the southern
Amazonian rain forest to derive adequate model-based decision support
for land use conflicts in Brazil. For the subproject “Model-based yield
estimation for crop rotations on former rainforest sites“, we seek a
post-doctoral researcher with a background in agronomy and
agro-ecosystem modelling.

*The task area *includes the following foci:

  * Calibration and test of a process-based agro-ecosystem simulation
    model.**
  * Simulation of regional agricultural yields under different land use
and climate scenarios in Southern Amazonia (Brazil) using a
    multi-processor computer cluster
  * Derivation of sustainable management strategies for the utilisation
of deforested sites for agricultural production from simulation
studies using research results of other CarBioCial subprojects

Applicants should have (I) broad experience in modelling of
agro-ecosystems, (II), profound knowledge of agricultural production
processes and (III) prove strong interest in research questions
connected to climate and land use change. Experiences with methods for
regionalisation and are greatly appreciated. Applicants must be fluent
in English (C1) and qualified to integrate into an international
research environment, driving the research project on own
responsibility. Portuguese language skills are beneficial.
