Subject: [BRDBRAIN] Shorebirds in south Miami-Dade county.
I drove about 20-miles through the farm fields of south Dade this morning and found a few shorebirds. There does not seem to be as many as previous years, perhaps I have not hit it at the right time. I did have a large number of Upland Sandpipers, which is always a treat. Here is a list of what I saw as well some photos:
Upland Sandpiper 38
Killdeer lots
Black-bellied Plover 67
Least Sandpiper 7
Black-necked Stilt 4
Greater Yellowlegs 3
Lesser Yellowlegs 2
Spotted Sandpiper 1
Pectoral Sandpiper 2
Bobolink 1

Directions for some of the easier Upland Sandpipers:
From Florida City take SR 9336 (this is the road that goes into Everglades National Park) to s.w. 217 ave. turn left onto a dirt road; scan the plowed fields on both sides of the road.
