Why not just provide both systems? It would be a shame to undue all that hard work. Some patrons may want either one or the other and having both in the bib. record might be of help to a lot of students, faculty, and staff.

How many of you are using decimal degrees as coordinates instead of degrees, minutes, and seconds? We are migrating our map cataloging records from a locally designed database to MARC format cataloging. I am planning to convert all records with degrees, minutes, and seconds to decimal degrees. Is it necessary to have both 034 and 255 fields in the cataloging record?
Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Wangyal
