*RESEARCH FELLOW I/II*

*The Department of Agronomy and Soils at Auburn University*is seeking
candidates for the position of Research Fellow I/II.**This a 1 year
limited position and is funded from external sources. Continuation of
employment is contingent upon availability of funds and satisfactory
performance. This is an extension and research position involving
professional and technical work in the development of a climate
extension program for the Southeast USA with emphasis in Alabama. We
seek a candidate that would be/involve to conduct/ research or perform
investigation for the purpose of identifying climate/environmental
conditions that impact agricultural ecosystems and stakeholders
profitability and whole community. Utilizing knowledge of various
scientific disciplines to collect, synthesize, study, report, and take
action based on data derived from measurements or observations of
weather, climate, soil, water, and other sources. The climate extension
program will be based on information derived from research studies
looking at the impact of seasonal climate variability and climate change
projections on agriculture with a special focus on cereal crops.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: develop and deliver
producer-oriented educational materials such as fact sheets, manuscripts
for publication, and web-based materials, develop and conduct workshops
and field days with producers, mainly cereal crop growers, and
demonstrate adaptation and mitigation strategies to climate variability
and change, prepare technical reports, and perform various other duties
as assigned by supervisor, and assist principal investigator. These
activities imply advising, instructing, and assisting individuals and
families engaged in agriculture, agricultural-related processes, or home
economics activities. Instruct and train in climate-based agricultural
management strategies, basics of how to use climate information by the
farming community. Includes farmers, county agricultural agents, feed
and farm management advisers, and extension service advisors. The
candidate will interact with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and
extension faculty affiliated with the Southeast Climate Consortium
(SECC, http://SEClimate.org/) and contribute to the development of
climate-based decision support tools on the /AgroClimate/ web-based
information system: http://www.agroclimate.org/. The candidate will
interact regularly with various state and federal agencies,
stakeholders, and researchers from other departments/universities.

  The candidate must have a Ph.D. in agricultural, biological, Earth
Science or a similar field with a strong interest in
Agrometeorology/Agroclimatology. Strong written and oral communication
skills are required. A demonstrated experience in either teaching or
extension. The candidate should be able to work effectively in a large
interdisciplinary research team and regularly communicate project
results.Desirable is the knowledge on the climate variability in the
southeast US and background in use of climate data. Applicants must
