The Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas
at Austin announces
the 2012–2013 William and Madeline Welder Smith Research Travel Award.
Five fellowships of
up to $1,000.00 each will be given, and the aid may be used any time
from September 1, 2012
to August 31, 2013.
Through the Smith Travel Award, the Briscoe Center for American History
will assist masters,
doctoral, and post-doctoral students with costs associated with travel
to Austin, Texas. The
award is intended for students who need to conduct in-depth research in
the holdings of the
Briscoe Center and who reside outside of the Austin metropolitan area.
The Dolph Briscoe Center for American History houses more than 35,000
printed and manuscript maps which date from 1513 to the present. These
cartographic resources depict many geographic areas throughout the
world, but their special strengths relate to Texas, the U. S. South, the
U. S. Southwest, and Mexico.
Applications must be postmarked by May 15, 2012. More information can be
found on the
Briscoe Center's website (www.cah.utexas.edu/services/smith_travel.php).
