GIS LIBRARIAN: UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO LIBRARY . Assistant professor; full faculty status, rank and responsibilities; 9-month academic year appointment. This entry-level, tenure-track position offers the successful candidate an excellent career opportunity as a university faculty member and academic librarian.

The Geospatial Information Librarian at the University of Idaho is a collaborative and energetic individual who has primary responsibility for providing a strategic vision of and leadership in developing and promoting a suite of geospatial services for faculty, staff, and students. Duties include providing reference assistance and research consultation for geospatial information; identifying and cultivating partnerships with other university programs on geospatial initiatives; participating in the creation and maintenance of metadata records for geospatial data in our geoportal (INSIDE Idaho/Northwest Knowledge Network); evaluating geospatial resources and collaborating with librarians in related subject areas to identify spatial data needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Promote GIS in the context of other value-added services provided by the Library;

Maintain and enhance INSIDE Idaho, working with external and internal constituencies;

Contribute to the success and development of the Northwest Knowledge Network through data curation and management efforts;

Work collaboratively with Digital Initiatives and Scholarly Communications to advance the Library’s interests in digital publishing and data management;

Engage with instruction efforts to support research and scholarly activities;

Serve as the Library expert in matters pertaining to geospatial data

QUALIFICATIONS :

Required :

ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree

Experience with geospatial data and GIS software

Knowledge of metadata and cataloging principles

Experience with web design and understanding of emerging technologies

Excellent analytical, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively, both independently and as a collaborator

Ability to achieve success as a faculty member, meeting the requirements of scholarship, service, and outreach.

Must: Applicants who are selected as final possible candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.*

Preferred :

GIS certificate or significant GIS experience

Experience in working in an academic library

Experience with using FGDC standards

Demonstrated project management skills

START DATE : September 23, 2013 .
