Please forgive me this posting if it appears as a self promotional ploy, but
my lab is a newbie in the field of ciliate molecular biology, and thus not
connected to investigators with interests in bioenergetics of these
organisms.  We have recently published a study on Tetrahymena ATP synthase
in PLoS Biology (

18) that would suggest some unique properties of mitochondrial physiology in
ciliates.  I would be most interested in feedback from the ciliate community
as we try to unravel this and its connection to our interest in
mitochondrial functions of malaria parasites.  We would be delighted to be
contacted by colleagues with interests in ciliate mitochondria.
