I'm forwarding this both to bring attention to the event as well as the
publication by Ian Burnet.

Enjoy.

Apologies for the late notice on a Sydney Map group event this week if
you are in Sydney....
This Wednesday 18 April we have asked Ian Burnet, author of the recently
published book, Spice Islands
<http://www.spiceislandsbook.com/the_book>, to give a presentation to
the group. We will bring out a few related maps out from the State
Library's collections.
The meeting will commence at 6.00 pm in the Coles Room, level 3,
Macquarie Building.
As usual light refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP by Tuesday 17
April. As the venue is in a staff only area one of us will be in the
foyer ready to escort you upstairs!
And for your diaries....On Thursday 30 August, Sarah Tyacke, former
Keeper of Maps at the British Library will be in Sydney. The Library
will be hosting a talk through our formal Events program. Sarah will be
talking about Sir Robert Dudley and the first printed sea atlas,Arcano
del Mare, drawn and published by Robert Dudley in 1648. Her presentation
will concentrate on the East Indies and contemporary knowledge of
Australia. I'll let you know when the bookings are open.
Thank you,
Maggie
