Thanks to those who responded to my question about map use in the
Mexican-American War. In addition to the relevant works posted to this
list, I just found on the Web a work that is highly relevant to my subject:
Traas, Adrian G. /From the Golden Gate to Mexico City - The U. S. Army
Topographical Engineers in the Mexican War, 1846 - 1848/. (Wash., DC,
CMH Pub 70-10 (GPO), 1992.),
http://www.history.army.mil/books/mexico/topo/contents.htm#cont
It is fairly detailed, and includes extensive notes and a bibliography,
which make it a good starting point for more specialized research on
this subject.
