TITLE: Senior Research Assistant/Research Analyst

LOCATION: Washington, DC

DIVISION: Environment and Production Technology

Job Summary:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a
qualified Senior Research Assistant or Research Analyst who will work on
projects related to agricultural technology, natural resource management
and climate change research in its Environment and Production Technology
(EPTD) division, based in Washington DC, USA, but will likely involve
travel to the countries in which IFPRI carries out its research.

The successful candidate will either have experience running crop
modeling software (preferably DSSAT) or experience programming in Linux
or both. Additionally, a second skillset is required, either in
statistical analysis (regressions) or GIS. Good writing skills are a plus.

This is a one-year, fixed-term, non-exempt, renewable appointment based
in Washington DC.

Essential Duties:

Duties include, but not limited to, the following:

*Running crop models on a cluster (or possibly in the cloud) in a Linux
environment
*Assisting with writing reports, papers, funding proposals, and
presentations
*Doing either statistical analysis in Stata or GIS work in GRASS and/or
ArcGIS
*Other duties that may be assigned from time to time

Required Qualifications:

*MA/MS in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Economics,
environmental economics, agriculture (agronomy), public policy, remote
sensing, or related fields.
*Ability to program in Linux, or program crop modeling software (DSSAT
preferred), or both.
*Experience with either statistics or econometrics including the use of
statistical software applications; or GIS work with ArcGIS or GRASS.
*Excellent analytical skills/quantitative analysis.
*Excellent verbal and written English, as well as strong interpersonal
communication skills.
*Experience in working on topics such as climate change, agriculture and
rural development, natural resource management, or public policy.
*Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and produce completed
products on time.
*Ability to work under time pressure.
*Ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary and
multicultural team environment.
