I found a death notice for Rich online. He was 58, and he died on
January 4th in Chico. Apparently he died of cancer. I can't find an
obituary, but maybe one will be published closed to the date of his
funeral. He hosted a WAML meeting at BYU in 2001 and helped host the
Chico meeting in 2004.

Rich followed me as Map Specialist at Stanford before moving to BYU and
serving as a geology librarian as well as a map librarian. I think that
he went to school at Chico State and was happy to return years later.

Two WAML moments with Rich: He brought his youngest son (who may have
been about 5 at the time) to a WAML meeting in Arizona. His son was the
hit of the meeting.

Rich and his wife drove me back to Salt Lake City from the WAML meeting
at Jackson Hole in the 90s. It was a great short road trip especially
through, the Bear Lake area. I always found Rich to be very hospitable.

Sad to hear of his passing.

Michael

Rich hosted WAML at BYU for what was a memorable meeting. He was active
in the organization for years and will be missed by many.
Sympathies to his family.

Rich took my job as map librarian at BYU when I returned to Hawaii. He
was a good friend and fun to work with. Aloha to you, Rich.
