International Student Life Office Events


1.  Currently, ISL is looking for approximately 25 UGA students to
volunteer as our 2003 international orientation leaders (also known as
World Leaders).

If you or any of your friends are interested in finding out more about
being a World Leader and the events planned for international
orientation, please plan to attend our final meeting of the semester on
Wednesday, April 23, at 5 pm in the ISL lounge (210 Memorial Hall).
Call ISL at 542-5867 if you have any questions.


2.  ISL has a position open for a student worker this summer.  The right
person will be enthusiastic, energetic, detail-oriented, self-motivated
and have an extremely high interest in working with international
students. Call 542-5867 or [log in to unmask] for a job description and
application. Applications can be picked up at 210 Memorial Hall and are
due April Friday, April 25, 2003.  (THIS week!)


3.  GRADUATION!  International Student Life is hosting a FREE graduation
ceremony for our international student graduates on Friday, May 9, at 3
pm in the Memorial Hall Ballroom.  Graduating students should call ISL
at 542-5867 to sign-up for the ceremony.  Deadline for signing up is
Friday, April 25, 2003, at 3:30 pm!  Help us celebrate your special
weekend and all of your accomplishments by signing up.


4.  The Turkish Student Association would like to invite all of you to
Turkish Night on Sunday, April 27th at 6 pm at Georgia Hall in Tate
Center. They will have great Turkish Food, live Turkish Music, live
Turkish Dance Performances, a slide show, exhibition, presentations, and
more.  Tickets are available at the Tate Center Cashier's Window or at
entrance.  It will be a great night and we hope you will be there too.

5.  ISL will present a Tea Talk hosted by Amnesty International and this
coming Thursday, April 24,  at 5:30 pm in the ISL lounge.  Tea talk is a
small discussion about a topic of interest to students in an intimate
setting.  The topic this Thursday will be Arranged Marriages.


6.  Join ISL and the World Ambassadors as we host the last Coffee Hour
of the academic year. Friday, April 25, 2003 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm in
the Memorial Hall Ballroom.  Free food and lots of fun!


7. Get cool in July with the ISL Pool Parties and enjoy the outdoors
with day trips to pick strawberries. These are a few of the fun things
that ISL has planned for summer.  See the listserv this summer for more
information!

Other University Events

1.  Monsoon Wedding is an excellent drama about an Indian family
wedding, Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at the Tate Movie Theatre.  Check
with the Tate Box office for showing times.

2. Come join the Campus Center for Jewish Life, Hillel and many other
sponsors for the Israel Fair 2003: "Israel at 55 - The Faces of
Israel".  Tuesday, April 29 is Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day).
There will be a Reading of the Names at the Tate Plaza from 10 am until
4 pm.  Wednesday, April 30th will include a day of Israeli food, live
music, travel information and many other displays in the Tate Plaza from
11 am until 3 pm.

3.  The Republic of China (R.O.C.) has long been held up as a model of
economic development and peaceful democratization in East Asia. Director
General Maggie Tien of the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office in
Atlanta, will give an insightful introduction to Taiwan, addressing how
a small island with scant resources has managed to achieve economic
prosperity and full-fledged democracy. She will also discuss Taiwan's
relations with Mainland China and the United States, as well as Taiwan's
role in the international arena and its efforts to participate in
international organization such as the United Nations and the World
Health Organization. April 28, Monday, 2003 from 2:15 - 3:30 PM, Room
141, Tate Student Center, University of GA sponsored by Center for Asian
