Dear list members,

we offer a PhD position in a rapeseed GXE modelling study conducted in
Germany. Further details are given below.

Kind regards,
Matthias Langensiepen

===================================================================
PhD position (Crop Science / Modelling) in Germany
(University of Bonn, Germany)

The Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation at the
Agricultural Faculty of the University of Bonn seeks a PhD student for
an interdisciplinary research project “Prediction and Modeling of Hybrid
Performance and Yield Gain in Oilseed Rape by Systems Biology".

She/he will contribute to this project by developing/improving crop
models for characterizing genotype x environment interactions (GxE) in
rapeseed. Main emphasis of the work is on modelling using experimental
data for model calibration and validation provided by seed industry
partners with whom the candidate is expected to closely interact.

The PhD candidate must have a competitive MSc degree in agonomy or a
closely related field. Skills in crop growth-physiology, plant-breedig,
statistics and mathematics must be well above average. Experience in
applied crop modelling is important. Knowledge in computer programming
will be an advantage.

The candidate will be based in Bonn and is expected to interact with
other members of the research consortium. Willingness to integrate into
a multi-disciplininary team and a high level of self-motivation are
essential requirements. A high command of English is indispensible as
the PhD student is expected to publish in scientific journals. Basic
communication skills in German would be an additional advantage for
international candidates.

The candidate will be jointly supervised by the Department of Crop
Science (Prof. F Ewert. Email: [log in to unmask]) and Department
of Plant Nutrition (Prof. M. Langensiepen. Email: [log in to unmask]).
The 3-year position is available immediately. The financial remuneration
is a stipend corresponding to the German salary level TV-L 13 (75%). The
application deadline is March 11, 2015. Please send your applications
(CV, certificates, and one-page motivation letter) as PDF files to Prof.
Dr. Langensiepen (Email:[log in to unmask])
