COSML WORKSHOP
The Committee on Southern Map Libraries (COSML) of the
Southeastern Division of the Association of American Geographers
(SEDAAG) is holding their Eleventh Map Libraries Workshop. The
Workshop will be held on Sunday November 20, 1994 with an informal
social event on Saturday evening November 19th. The Annual Meeting
of SEDAAG begins on Sunday and runs through Tuesday November 22,
1994.
COSML is a regional group of map librarians and others concerned
with maps/spatial data in the SEUS. It provides an opportunity for
persons to network with others of similar interests in a smaller
venue than national conventions. Everyone is welcomeed at the
Workshop and many past Workshop attendees have been from outside the
region.
The theme of the Workshop this year is spatial data resources in
Libraries and includes several interesting talks and demos on GIS
plus resources available on the Internet. One emphasis of the
Workshop is on public services in libraries and the development of
staff and user educational tools. The participants are encouraged to
bring examples of their tutorials, guides, etc. and plenty of time is
allotted for an information exchange forum.
The SEDAAG members will present an estimated 84 papers on a
variety of geographic subjects including GIS during the SEDAAG Annual
Meeting. There is also a field trip planned to the City of Virginia
Beach which is one of the original sites to use INTERGRAPH in an
urban setting.
Registeration is $28.00 for the Workshop and includes
complimentary registration to attend all the SEDAAG sessions. There
is an additional $5.00 for those planning to attend the Suite Party
social event on Saturday evening. The SEDAAG Meeting is being held
at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach, VA. The hotel room costs
are $52.00 plus tax for either a single or double (It is a beachfront
resort hotel with all the amenities).
The Eleventh COSML Map Libraries Workshop Program is attached.
Registration information will be mailed next week to all SEDAAG
members and former Workshop participants. For those wishing
