In the case of residential buildings, the "F" stands for FLAT and indicates
a single family occupancy per floor for a total of more than two families. A
"D" is for a residential building occupied by not more than two families
(from: Description and Utilization of the Sanborn Map).

Hi all-
I'm trying to decipher the codes on a Sanborn map for a residential area
of St Paul, MN. Most of the buildings have a "D" (for dwelling, I
believe), but a few are marked "F". Does anyone know what "F" is, or
have a legend?
thanks,
