Title: Impact of climate change and changing climate variability on crop
production systems in the Midwestern USA
Name: Jane Southworth

USA
Yrs experience in modeling: 4 years
Keywords: climate change, climate variability, impacts on crop growth
Crops: Maize, soybeans, wheat
Models: DSSAT suite, HadCM2, PCLP
Applications: climate change scenarios, farm-level adaptation strategies
Summary: Research project (EPA-STAR) addressing the impacts of potential
future changes in climate on midwestern agricultural systems for the 2050s.
Modeling crop level impacts of changes in mean future climate conditions,
changing climate varaibility, and carbon dioxide fertilization using HadCM2
climate scenarios for maize, wheat and soybeans, using the DSSAT 3.5 suite
of models. Research also addresses the potential farm-level adaptations
strategies and farm-level impacts using PCLP and risk assessment analyses.
