Arjan and Ayman,

I would like to bring to your attention that Frédéric Dadoun, one of Joe
Ritchie's former PhD students modified CERES-Maize to account for tillage
(and residue) effects on soil evaporation. The following is the citation of
his PhD thesis:

F. A. Dadoun, 1991. Modelling tillage effects on soil physical properties
and maize (Zea mays, L.) development and growth Thesis (Ph.D.)--Michigan
State University. Dept. of Crop and Soil Sciences, 1993.

Arjan,

Many thanks for telling me about the lack of accounting for the impact of a
litter layer on soil evaporation in DSSAT. I will sure look into that when I
work on the new evaporation modules. That will be part of the impact of
different tillage-residue management strategies on soil evaporation.

Regards,

Ayman
