International Student Life events
=================================
1. Friday, October 24, 2003.  International Coffee Hour.  Join the Taiwan
Student Association as they host this week's Coffee Hour. Explore the
beautiful country of Taiwan and enjoy the culture.  Free cultural, food and
drinks.  Coffee provided by Jittery Joe's Coffee Roasting Company.  11:30
am - 12:30 pm in the Memorial Hall Ballroom. For more information contact
542-5867.

2.  October 21, 2003.  Beyond Georgia Interest Meeting.  This program is a
Brazilian (Rio de Janeiro) International Service Project.  Volunteer period
is from May 12 - May 20, 2003. Interest Meeting on Tuesday, October 21, 2003
from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm in 210 Memorial Hall. Contact ISL at 542-5867 for
more information.

3.  October 23, 2003.  Tea Talk.  UGA student Anjali Philipose will discuss
cultural identity in the immigrant student community.  Where is home?  How
to reconcile your family's cultural background with American cultural value
that you grew up in?  6 pm - 7 pm ISL Lounge (210 Memorial Hall) for more
information contact 542-5867.

4.  The 2nd Annual UGA World Cup Soccer Tournament sponsored by ISL and the
UGA Student Government Association will be held on Sunday, Oct 26th, 2003,
from 10 am - 5 pm.   Pick up your application to make your World Cup team at
the Tate Info Desk - the winning team will be rewarded, and the top two
teams (no matter who wins) will compete in a rematch during International
Education Week!  A flyer for the event can be viewed at

5.  If you are a December 2003 Graduate, time is drawing near! You are
invited to participate in the International Student Life Graduation
Ceremony.  The Ceremony will be held on Friday, December 19, 2003 at 3:00
p.m.  Participation in the ceremony is free.  Call the ISL office at
542-5867 to register for this special event honoring UGA international
student graduates.

6.  Adorn your graduation robe at the ISL graduation ceremony with a
beautiful international satin sash, elegantly designed with your country
flag and colors.  Go by the display case in the Tate Student Center lobby to
view sashes from China, India and Korea, others countries are available.
Orders must be received by Friday, November 7, 2003, for December graduates.
Contact ISL for prices and to view pictures, 210 Memorial Hall 542-5867.

other side of your sash -- see ISL staff for information.)  Order your Sash
today!

7.  ISL will host our annual Thanksgiving Dinner for International Students
on November 24, 2003 at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church from 6:00 pm - 8:00
pm.  Come enjoy a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner with all the
dressings with us.  You are welcome to bring your family.  Please contact
ISL by November 10 to reserve your space.  The dinner is FREE!


Other Notices

1.  The Office of International Education is sponsoring a photography
contest for international students and U.S. students who have studied or
traveled abroad.  Students may submit up to three photos to 209 Barrow Hall
(across from the Science Library) by November 3rd.  Photos will be judged in
two categories: People & Culture and Artistic Merit. Prizes will be awarded
to the winners of each category.  For more information or to download an

2.  Remember to set your clock back one hour at 12:01 am on Saturday,
October 25, 2003.  It usually is best to set your clock back one hour before
you go to bed on Saturday night.  If you don't remember to set your clock
back, don't worry, you will be an hour early for everything on Sunday!
