New Work-Study Stipends for Study Abroad

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has announced a
new funding opportunity for study abroad students, known as Work and Study
Abroad Stipends.  Students who intend to study abroad can work prior to
their departure in order to earn money for their study abroad program fees.
 There are more than 20 stipends that are available for UGA students for
the current fiscal year (ending June 30, 2003).  Each stipend is worth
$500.  Please note that the work associated with payment must be completed
prior to June 30, 2003.

The stipends are available to undergraduate and graduate students who will
be attending University of Georgia Study Abroad Programs (typically during
summer 2003 or fall 2003). There are no restrictions related to financial
need or prior international travel. However, students must seek work
through their particular study abroad program or through a professor or
department on campus that can be completed before June 30, 2003 in exchange
for this work-study award. The amount of work will be at the discretion of
the supervising professor. Successful applicants will receive approval from
their study abroad program director or a professor or UGA staff member, who
must agree to provide work assignments and supervise work. It is the
responsibility of the student to obtain this approval.

It is also very likely that there will be Work and Study Abroad Stipends
available for work next year (between July 1, 2003 and June 30, 2004) for
those studying abroad at a later date (spring 2004 or later). We will be
