Dear Steve and other locality buffs,

It may be that the place name is an odd transliteration of a locality 
from which I had number of East African shells, many endemic: Kisamayo, 
Somalia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kismayo>.

Many place-names in Mozambique are of Portuguese origin, but doubled 
letters are very rare in that language.
