Linda,
Can't help the confusion, but I throw this at you to add to the pot. In 1980,
in a fishing village South of Naha, Okinawa, Japan, we found a hugh pile of
P. nobilis. Unlike most nobil that are a solid color or a dominant color
these were a mixture of colors. All the yellow had stipes of purple and the
purple had stripes of yellow. The rest were either a very plain grey, brown
and sades color, or a mixture of reds, oranges and sometimes yellow. I've
sent from 5 to 10 pair to all the top Pecten collectors around and other than
nice shells, never heard much else. I have been trading, selling these at $4
regular color; $10/12 for reds/oranges and $15 for yellow/purple. I have a
few giants that are $20.
Know this does not help, but thought you might find it interesting.
Frank
