I prefer the hinged boxes because the lids of the friction ones can come
off, spilling shells and percs on the rug. However, the 1X2 hinged boxes are
a convenient size for many shells. I use lots of 1" boxes, both 1/4" and
1/2" deep, quite a few 1" deep. Also a great variety of other sizes, in
smaller numbers. Depends on how many tiny shells you collect or if you just
like big ones!
I prefer the blue foam inserts. The black ones feel like they will
deteriorate and the little holes in the foam are larger.
My label-making file is set to make 1"X1" labels (pretty small type, I
admit) so they can be placed in the bottom of the boxes and read without
opening the boxes. There are other sizes of labels to fit other boxes as
well.
