Jerry Walls is not the only person to name mollusks after cats. Catriona
maua Marcus & Marcus, 1960 was named after a cat, as was the genus Miesea
Marcus, 1961. Curiously, "mau" means "bad" in Portuguese, and "mies" means
"bad" in German, so apparently Ernst and Eveline Marcus had some naughty
cats for pets. They also had a dog named Teco, whose name appears in the
genus Piseinotecus, which means "I stepped on Teco" in Portuguese. All of
these are names of opisthobranchs. For further details see American
Malacological Bulletin 5:184 (1987).
