A word of warning to anyone who thinks the above is all they need to know
about the ICZN : dozens of species have been named by accident in forums
ranging from the letters pages of magazines (Perotrochus westralis, for
one) to popular shell books (several of Kira and Habe's species, and many
others) due to ignorance of the rules. Anyone contemplating putting pen (or
keyboard) to paper on the subject of molluscs, even in the most informal
way, would be well advised to familiarise themselves with the rules first.
They are not complicated. Comments like 'The ICZN has no pictures, so I'm
not interested' or such do, however, serve to alert us all to another
potential taxonomic loose cannon on deck.
Tack the suffix -ologist onto your hobby and this seems the least that
could be reasonably expected.
