Upcoming Representative Visits
Joanna Storti of AustraLearn will be on campus to meet with students
interested in study abroad in Australia or New Zealand. AustraLearn has
opportunities available for fall, spring, and summer in a variety of

The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) will be on campus on
Tuesday, April 15th to meet with students interested in AIFS study and
internship opportunities in Australia, Austria, China, Czech Republic,
England, France, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, and
South Africa. AIFS programs take place during fall/spring semesters,
academic year, and summer. Fred von Schmeling of AIFS will be in
Memorial Hall, room 227 from 5:00 pm-6:00 pm on April 15th to discuss

New Program
Geography of Latin America: Costa Rica and Panama
Join a Maymester course (GEOG 4720/6720, 3 credit hours) to review the
wonders of the geography of Latin America, analyzing case studies of the
countries of Costa Rica and Panama. Local scholars will present guest
lectures, we will visit museums and national parks, and will have
valuable personal interaction with community members in areas where our
Costa Rican counterparts are working. Particular emphasis will be
placed with a visit to the University of the United Nations for Peace in
ciudad Colon and INBIO, and stays at the Escuela de Agricultura para la
Region Tropical Humeda (EARTH) and UGA's Ecolodge San Luis and Research

Scholarships
The Consortium of Universities for International Studies has a number of
both merit and need based financial support awards for graduate students
attending the Summer Session II 2003 program in Asolo. The awards will
range from $200-$1000. The size of the award will be based on financial
need. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, so return
your application as soon as possible. Applications should be submitted
no later than Thursday, April 24th. Applications can be obtained from
the Office of International Education Study Abroad library in Barrow
Hall, room 203F.
The American University in Cairo is pleased to announce the 2003-4
Simpson Scholarships in Egyptology for outstanding students of all
nationalities who are of junior or senior standing in a college or
university outside of Egypt at the time they apply. Simpson Scholarships
provide an award of $2500 per semester (not to exceed two consecutive
semesters) to undergraduate students who enroll in the Study Aboard
Program at The American University in Cairo and concentrate their
studies in Egyptology. Application deadline is April 15, 2003. All

Conference
The School for International Training (SIT) is pleased to announce the
Undergraduate International Research Conference on Global Public Health,
co-sponsored by SIT, Morehouse Public Health Sciences Institute, and the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The conference will be held in
Atlanta, June 12-14, 2003. Undergraduates who are underrepresented in
the sciences are invited to submit proposals to present their
international research related to public health. The call for papers is

Internship Opportunities
The Institute for Comparative and International Studies and the Center
for International Programs Abroad at Emory University seeks highly
motivated and dependable individuals to fill two (2) one-year paid
internship positions. Both positions are full-time, monthly-paid,
temporary positions with limited benefits eligibility. The term for the
internships runs from June 1, 2003 to May 31, 2004. Pay rate is
$1800/month.
1) Study Abroad Intern/Receptionist: As an intern in Emory's study
abroad office, the employee assists study abroad advisors with
maintaining and updating information materials, corresponding with
students, processing applications, maintaining databases, and organizing
and presenting informational events. The intern also serves
approximately half time as receptionist, representing the Institute to
faculty, students, staff, and administration of the University and to
the outside world, facilitating the connection between those individuals
and staff and faculty of the Institute, and providing other staff
services to faculty and staff of the Institute.
2) Outreach Intern/Receptionist: As an intern in the ICIS outreach
office, the employee assists the outreach coordinator with organizing
and presenting a comprehensive community outreach program and with
researching and coordinating grant application and fundraising
activities. The intern also serves approximately half time as
receptionist, representing the Institute to faculty, students, staff,
and administration of the University and to the outside world,
facilitating the connection between those individuals and staff and
faculty of the Institute, and providing other staff services to faculty
and staff of the Institute.
