Upcoming Representative Visit
The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) will be on campus on
Tuesday, April 15th to meet with students interested in AIFS study and
internship opportunities in Australia, Austria, China, Czech Republic,
England, France, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, and
South Africa. AIFS programs take place during fall/spring semesters,
academic year, and summer. Fred von Schmeling of AIFS will be in
Memorial Hall, room 227 from 5:00 pm-6:00 pm on April 15th to discuss

Scholarship
2003-04 GILMAN SCHOLARSHIPS -- DEADLINE APRIL 15, 2003
The application deadline for the Fall 2003 and Academic Year 2003-2004
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is April 15, 2003.
The program offers awards of up to $5,000 for American undergraduate
students at two- and four-year educational institutions to study abroad
for up to one academic year. Eligible students must be receiving a
Federal Pell Grant at the time of application.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
For students planning to study in affected areas: The Centers for
Disease Control have suggested US Citizens defer travel to Hong Kong
SAR, People's Republic of China, Hanoi, Vietnam, and Singapore:

The US Dept. of State has now issued a Travel Warnings for Vietnam:

The World Health Organization has also recommended that persons
traveling to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China and

Announcements from ISL
ISL is looking for approximately 25 UGA students to volunteer as our
2003 international orientation leaders (also known as World Leaders).
If you or any of your friends are interested in finding out more about
being a World Leader and the events planned for international

The Korean Traditional Play Association will be hosting this week's
Coffee Hour, Friday, April 11, 2003, 11:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the
Memorial Hall Ballroom. Come out and enjoy Korean culture and food,
coffee and lemonade. As with most ISL events, it is free. Contact ISL

The Caribbean Student Association is hosting an Ethnic Night, a night of
Caribbean food, music and culture. Thursday, April 17, 2003 from 7:30
p.m. - 9:30 p.m. in Georgia Hall.
The Republic of China (R.O.C.) has long been held up as a model of
economic development and peaceful democratization in East Asia. Director
General Maggie Tien of the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office in
Atlanta, will give an insightful introduction to Taiwan, addressing how
a small island with scant resources has managed to achieve economic
prosperity and full-fledged democracy. She will also discuss Taiwan's
relations with Mainland China and the United States, as well as Taiwan's
role in the international arena and its efforts to participate in
international organization such as the United Nations and the World
Health Organization.
