"But be sure to check the tides before you decide just when to go. Happily
there are are no restrictions on collecting there, but that was March of
1996 so things may have changed. I have one word of to add. Tucker Allott
told me one time when I asked him if the shelling was good at a certain
place that 'It was great when I was there, but no one can guarantee shells
anywhere. Time often changes things.' I always like to repeat that when I
recommend a place for good collecting. It was great when I was there, I
can only hope it still is. If you go there, drop me a note and let me know
if it is still as great as I remember it."

"Regarding Penang, we stayed at an old hotel in town and did our
collectding by taking boat trips. After Langgkawi it was a disappointment.
There were some shells but you had to hunt for them. If I were to go
there again I would spend all the time I had on Langkawi."

Thought you might also be interested in the response I got from the
gentleman after he and his wife had been there.

"We returned last week from our trip to Langkawi.....and it was great!!! We
found a lot of shells, especially at Tanjung Rhu and Pantai Cenang (Pelangi).
Among others: Murex spectabilis (gem), Murex occa and Murex trapa, but also
Tonna dolium and Tonna sulcosa, Cymatium pfeifferianumand Bursa rana. At
Tanjung Rhu I collected Marginella elegans (gem) and many bivalves.
Together we carried at least 20 kgs of shells back to Holland!!
Thanks again for your very usefull information!!"

Ashish, if you do go there you will have to write an email and let us know
if it is still so wonderful.

I am sure by now you are all drooling over your computers or on the phone
talking with your travel agent.

P.S. If you are wondering why I wrote this in two section, it is because I
have been told an individual email is not to exceed one page. Am I
correct, Amy, or has that restriction
been changed?
