"The Italian Malacological Society is a nonprofit corporation whose
mission is to promote the increase and diffusion of malacological
knowledge. Its 1000 members make it the biggest European malacological
society. S.I.M. institutional goals are pursued through the publishing of
three different malacological magazines and the conduct of regular meetings.
The leadership structure of the Society is built on the highest respect for
democratic rules, and any of its Members - Italian or not - is eligible to
hold any Societal position.
A net of local branches, usually on regional scale, holding their own
meetings and pursuing local interests, enables the Society to perceive
Members' desires to the finest level of detail, and firmly anchors it to
its roots. The Society is completely independent and owes its financial
resources to membership fees. This grants that its policy is an unequivocal
and direct expression of Members' wills and needs. "

The discussion list of SIM is devoted to host discussions on several topics
of malacology, mainly focused on general malacology and on the Northeast
Atlantic area (including the Mediterranean Sea). We are trying to gather in
the list the main specialists in Europe so that questions can be asked them
thru the list.
If you would like more information about this list, you can find
the list's information page at:
