Dear friends,

After the success of the 2nd international workshop, focused on
opisthobranch biology, held this year in Sicily Menfi: see e.g. some
comments in Bill Rudman's site:
http://www.austmus.gov.au/science/division/invert/mal/forum/menfwkshp.htm#944

the 3rd international workshop in Malacology will be held in Menfi (Sicily,
Italy) in June 15-19, 2000. It will be dedicated to:

"Systematics, Phylogeny and Biology of Neogastropoda"

Tentative titles of invited lectures:

John D. Taylor (Natural History Museum, London) - Evolution and Systematics
of Toxoglossa
Yuri Kantor (Inst. Animal Evolutionary Morphology and Ecology, Moscow) -
Evolutionary patterns in Neogastropoda
Jerry Harasewich (National Museum of Natural History, Washington) -
Evolutionary patterns in Neogastropoda
Guido Pastorino (Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales, Buenos Aires) -
Evolutionary patterns in Muricoidea
Emilio Rolan (Sociedad Espaņola de Malacologia, Vigo) - The evolution of
radular teeth and the systematics of cones
Baldomero Olivera (Dept. of Biological Chemistry, Salt Lake City) - "The
Venomous Cone Snails: Biology, Toxinology and Phylogeny"
Alan Kohn (Dept. Invertebrate Zoology, Seattle) - Evolution of feeding in
cone gastropods

free communications will be welcomed.

Grants and general facilities are planned for students. The idea is to
gather as many "neogastropods" as possible there to draw the state of the
art in the knowledge on their biology, systematics and phylogeny,
bioochemistry, ecology etc.....

The workshop is organized by Istituzione Culturale Federico II and
