OK Andrew, you pushed the right button to get me started. First of all,
Marginellas are not scavengers. They like fresh meat, and they hunt for
living flesh. I've watched 3 of them attack and eat a large Terebra
dislocata. Nassarius are scavengers. You will see both Marginellas and
Nassarius eating a pen shell or fish, only when it's fresh dead. As it
ages the Marginellas leave and the Nassarius stay and finish what's
left. The Marginella don't seem to eat each other like Fasciolaria do.
The Fasciolaria tulipa will start eating each other as soon as they
hatch out of their egg cases. I've watched the feeding habits of
Mollusks for quite a few years. If you know what they eat then you know
where they can be found.
