Dear All:

I think I need to apologize to our wildlife protection officials. Bill Frank
just pointed out to me what a mountain of laws and regulations these people have
to remember on top of the giant task of knowing one species from another. In
addition, I have noticed far fewer officers as the years have passed, which
leads me to believe that each officer has a much greater territory to cover now
than in the past. And most importantly, these jobs are
dangerous. They often face confrontation with armed poachers and smugglers.
I shouldn't get so upset about small lapses of reason.
