I believe British regulations stipulate copyright as extending a certain interval beyond the death of the author in some circumstances.  Thus, a malacologist with a particularly long publishing record might still be under copyright for something published around the turn of the century if he or she survived well into this century.  This is based on the incidental remark that P.G. Wodehouse was likely to set some sort of record for duration of copyright by first publishing early in the century and surviving into the 1970's rather than on any legal knowledge.
