Lessepsian species are species of Red Sea origin, which have migrated
into the Mediterranea and become established there, via the Suez Canal.
So called (believe it or not) because Lesseps was the architect who
designed the canal. There are also Mediterranean species which have
invaded the Red Sea via the same route, and these are sometimes referred
to as anti-Lessepsian.
